ESB: Extended Sick Bank
We may all need (at some point) time to recover from illness or injury, and to care for our family members
Lutheran Senior Services provides an extended sick bank (ESB) benefit which provides income protection for employees with illnesses or injuries that result in prolonged absence from work, as well as time off for family members’ illnesses/injuries.
Full-time, weekend-option, or part-time status are eligible.
Accrual rate is 0.0345 approximately 2.76 hours accrued for each 80 hours paid.
Accrue up to 480 hours.
Used for employee’s personal illness or injury. *
PTO (or bereavement pay) will need to be used for the first week of illness.
Employees will be required to provide physician’s statement verifying their illness or injury, est. length of absence before payment of ESB.

*In accordance with Illinois state law, employees who work in Illinois may also use ESB for absences due to an illness, injury, or medical appointment of the employee's child, spouse, sibling, parent, mother-in-law, father-in-law, grandchild, grandparent, or stepparent, as well as for providing personal care to these same family members, such as ensuring that family members’ basic medical, hygiene, nutritional, or safety needs are met or providing them with transportation to medical appointments, if they are unable to meet these needs, and being physically present to provide emotional support for family members who have a serious health condition and are receiving inpatient or home care. All other guidelines in the LSS ESB policy apply as they are written.
