Lutheran Senior Services is pleased to offer you the option to purchase Voluntary Short-Term Disability as a way to supplement your income if you become unable to work due to illness or injury. The VSTD benefit is 50% of your weekly salary (up to $2,000 per week) and the coverage begins the 1st of the month following 30 days of Full-time employment. This benefit provides you with some financial security if you become disabled and unable to work beginning on the 30th day of disability with a maximum payment period of 13 weeks.
Coverage is completely voluntary, and you pay 100% of the premium (i.e. no LSS contribution) through premiums conveniently deducted from your paycheck twice per month (24x per year) on a post-tax basis. There are pre-existing condition exclusions outlined in this benefit’s “Summary of Benefits” available below.
To calculate your own premium, take your weekly earnings and multiply it by 50%, then round the number up to the nearest $10 mark. We’ll call this number “A”. Then find the rate listed below for your own age band and divide the rate by 10, and we’ll call this number “B”. Then take “A” and multiply it by “B”, and that will provide you your monthly premium.
